The 32nd Meeting of EAST National Members was hosted by Worldline in Brussels on 12th February 2014. National updates were provided by 20 countries, and a global update by HSBC. Europol and Eurojust attended the meeting as observers, along with a representative of the Belgian Federal Police.
This 10th Anniversary meeting was held in the same location where the 1st EAST Meeting was held on 11th February 2004, and 7 out of the 13 founding members were present.
EAST was founded as a security user group to allow National Member representatives to meet regularly to share information, trends and statistics, in cooperation with Europol and Eurojust. Since 2004 EAST has been producing European ATM Crime Reports.
Over the years the role of EAST has expanded and the launch of the EAST Expert Group on ATM Fraud (EGAF) in 2013 has created a central forum where representatives from ATM deployers, ATM vendors, Vendors of security equipment and services, and Law Enforcement meet to discuss the latest threats, trends and counter-measures. In September 2013 EAST began to share EAST ATM Fraud Alerts with its National and Associate Members and the EAST Expert Group on ATM Physical Attacks (EGAP) will be launched later this year.
The first EAST Financial Crime & Security (FCS) Forum was held in the Hague in June 2013 and the next one is planned for June 2015. Looking ahead EAST is strengthening its engagement with countries and regions outside Europe, in particular Asia-Pacific and the USA.
According to EAST Coordinator, Lachlan Gunn: “A lot has changed since the first EAST meeting but the core strength of EAST, the friendship and the trust that has built up over the years between all those who participate in the Group, has endured. The platform that we have built has achieved global recognition and added great value to our industry. Through the Expert Groups and the new Associate Membership category we are also adding increasing value to Law Enforcement.”
