EAST presents at 6th Europol PCF Training

The sixth edition of the Europol Training Course on Payment Card Fraud (PCF) Forensics and Investigation, which included Online Fraud, took place from 26 to 30 June 2023, hosted by the Spanish National Police Academy in Avila, Spain.  40 participants from 20 countries attended.  The training was supported by the private industry with the participation of representatives of agencies and companies which play a key role in the fight against card payment fraud.

Key topics covered were: Javacard workshop; EMV Payment Tokenisation; Wearable payment technology; Digital skimming; Cryptocurrency tracing; Logical attacks on ATM/POS; Investment fraud; Phishing and account takeover; Card present fraud investigation; Card not present fraud investigation; AI linked to online fraud.

EAST Development Director Rui Carvalho presented on recent PCF trends as seen by EAST covering: Man-in-the-Middle shimming and relay attacks; Overlay contactless devices at unattended payment terminals (UPTs); Mobile Wallet tokenisation fraud; Shop-in-the-middle attacks; Transaction Reversal Fraud (TRF) – new variants.  Rui is also chair of the the EAST Expert Group on Payment and Transaction Fraud (EPTF), that focusses on the security of payments and transactions.
