In 2018 EAST began collecting data for POS Terminal numbers in Europe for the first time. POS (point of sale) terminals are the most widely deployed terminal type. The chart below shows the current POS Terminal numbers for Europe. EAST also provides summary data for ATM numbers in Europe.
EAST estimates that there are 19,998,495 POS Terminals deployed in Europe, a 17% increase from the 2023 total. EAST estimates that there are 3,378,673 POS Terminals in Turkey; 1,868,822 POS Terminals in Indonesia; 1,422,346 POS Terminals in Mexico; 522,951 POS Terminals in Ukraine; and 160,857 POS Terminals in Serbia, which are not shown in these totals.

EAST is also looking at getting data for the number of UPTs (unattended payment terminals) in Europe, but this is proving to be a challenge and no data is yet available.
EAST has been publishing data on ATM numbers in Europe since 2004.
