National & Global Fraud Intelligence – 13th EAST Global Congress

The 13th EAST Global Congress took place on Wednesday 10th June 2026 as a hybrid meeting.  11 people were in the room and 12 people attended virtually.

The meeting was hosted by Europol at their Headquarters in The Hague, and was chaired by Graham Mott from LINK.  Graham presented an EAST Award to Daniel Petersson of the Pan Nordic Card Association (PNC) in recognition of his significant contribution to EAST and the industry over the past 19 years.  Daniel has represented Sweden at EAST since 2007 and has been a Director of EAST since 2021.

The key focus of the 13th Global Congress was on the sharing of payment and terminal fraud intelligence (global, regional, national).

Law enforcement overviews were provided by Europol and the NCA, covering threats and tactics used by criminal networks.  Private sector fraud intelligence updates were received from 19 countries, either directly or via regional/global updates by BNP Paribas and Worldline.  Each update covered Fraud Types, Fraud Origin, Due Diligence and Physical Attacks (ATM, ATS and CIT).

Discussion focussed on data relay attacks, social engineering, payment fraud, and physical attacks against ATMs and other terminals.

Updates from the three EAST Expert Groups were given:

EAST Fraud Update 2-2026 will be produced early next month, based on the country updates provided at the EAST Global Congress.  EAST Fraud, Payment, and Physical Attack Alerts are available on the EAST Intranet to EAST Members.

The 14th EAST Global Congress, scheduled to be held in Edinburgh on 14th October 2026, will also be held as a Hybrid Meeting and will be followed by an EAST Financial Crime and Security (FCS) Forum on 14th/15th October 2026.
